The Creative Force Behind a Woman-Owned Remodeling Company

GET TO KNOW

Meg Jaeger

In the world of construction, innovation and passion merge to create beautiful and functional spaces. At the heart of every successful remodeling project, there's a visionary, a creator who knows how to breathe life into any home. Today, we invite you to meet Meg Jaeger, the owner and chief creative of Mega Remodel.

When Did the Journey Begin?

Often, our personal interests and hobbies shape our professional journeys. In Meg’s case, moving around the United States during her childhood sparked an adventurous spirit. Those early experiences instilled a love for architecture and design. The journey further into the construction industry started at a significant milestone in her life as a future homeowner.

“I loved looking at the outside of our home for the first time with the imagination of a child, and then arranging and rearranging my room in each home. I still think back to the different styles and how our family made each one a personal reflection of us.”

"We decided to build our first home and live in it," she explains. “However it made me realize I had so much to learn. So I quickly went to work researching products, processes and architecture. This of course took many years and I have a strong belief in continuing the education process.

This dedication to learning has remained a constant throughout her career, as she believes in evolving her knowledge continually. She gathers inspiration from everyday life situations, seeking new ideas for design, efficiency, technology, and style to offer her customers. Another significant interest is the study of true style and four-sided architecture in various forms of media, books, and travels. Walking through different cities, exploring their unique architecture, and absorbing the history and style of each location became an invaluable source of inspiration.

Inspirational Figures

Building a successful career is often a collaborative effort. Meg sought inspiration through connections with colleagues, trade contractors, employees, and designers who became a part of her growth journey. One notable inspirational figure was with a female architect/author, Sarah Susanka, who helped create unique styles of homes not typically seen in suburban settings: 4 Square, Craftsman, Tudor, Capes, Southern Colonials, New American Farmhouse, etc. This research ignited creative challenges and allowed Meg to fully explore the artistic side of her work.

“Sarah Susanka and her ‘Not So Big House’ concept have always been intriguing to me. I went to a seminar of hers early in my career and purchased many of her books through the years.”

At Mega Remodel, this same concept continues to be the focal point when it makes sense to the specific client. Meg’s customers have expressed how they love this thought process of talking about every inch of space, designing details around their needs, and even how Mega Remodel has helped them to understand their style.

Overcoming Challenges in a Male-Dominated Industry

No successful journey is without its fair share of challenges. Early in her career, Meg often found herself in rooms with very few women, sometimes as little as 1-10% of the attendees.

“Although I never had to worry about lines in the women’s bathrooms, It could be intimidating at times. It taught me early on that I was there because I could be, and my work, skills and talents were just as important as the rest of them.”

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, some potential clients had reservations about working with a female contractor. However, she refused to let these concerns hinder her progress. If a client preferred someone else, that was their choice, and she accepted it with grace. This experience has only built her confidence and driven her to keep moving forward.

Honing the Craft and Building a Clientele

Meg’s expansive portfolio over the years proves to be a testament to her exceptional craftsmanship and unwavering commitment to transforming houses into dream homes. Each project in her collection showcases a unique blend of creativity, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of her clients' desires, making her the go-to remodeler for those who seek nothing but the best in home renovation. With an unwavering commitment to her craft and a dedication to her clients, she continues to leave her mark on the world of design and construction.

“Honing in on my craft was integral to me and I did it by learning from those around me. Building a team of employees and trades that were interested in the same philosophies and ethics as mine helped us to build the solid reputation we have today.”
