4 Updates To Your Main Level for a New Home Feel

Updating your home in smaller projects is a cost-effective way to freshen up your home without the major renovations. We’ve compiled a list of four updated items that made a huge difference in Maria and David’s main level space.

1. Add New Lighting To Your Home

Lighting is one of the easiest things to change in a space without any complicated tools or processes. However choosing the right lighting for your home is where you can rely on a professional to make the best choices that combine function, design and play well with the rest of your home.

In this before photo from Maria and David’s kitchen, the matching fixtures above the island and dining room felt outdated and ordinary. We wanted the kitchen to feel open and light so we opted for a modern and clean globe shape pendant. The staggered placement of the island pendants work in sync with the angled countertop without making it look too busy. We also took time to install the pendants at a height that allows for comfortable conversation around the island or peninsula.

Adjacent to the globe pendants, we created a show-stopping moment by framing Maria and David’s artwork with two incredible sconces. These dual-headed sconces work well in lighting the entire area of the wall to create a unique gallery wall.

2. Update Your Kitchen Backsplash

Updating your kitchen backsplash is a simple way to add a touch of personality in your home. In Maria and David’s kitchen before, the combination of dark tile and black countertops made the kitchen feel enclosed and uninviting.

To fit within their budget, Maria and David decided to keep their existing countertops, but update the kitchen backsplash with a lighter tile that felt more their style. During our design selection meeting, Maria and David were drawn to the unique pattern etched into this tile that created a hand-crafted effect.

The under-cabinet lighting also highlights the remarkable texture of each tile. Their tile selection will be a great conversation starter for Maria and David as they welcome new guests.

3. Painted Cabinetry and New Hardware

Replacing an entire kitchen of cabinetry can be an expensive job. But working with a professional to get your existing cabinetry painted is a stress-free way to ensure the job is done right and fast! We built their home in early 2000’s so we had confidence that their custom cabinetry was in good enough condition to take on the cost and time of refinishing them.

We painted Maria and David’s cabinetry in a warm white color to create contrast against the dark countertops. Our selection of matte black hardware plays off the black elements in the appliances and lighting.

4. Add a Wallpaper Moment

Incorporating wallpaper into your home doesn’t have to feel like an overwhelming job. In Maria and David’s home, we chose one focal wall to extend this delicate and subtle wallpaper to give the dining room the attention it needed.

We knew this would be the perfect spot to create something special because we wanted this space to exude creativity and playfulness for all future gatherings here.
